I don't think Goku would have surpassed Super Buu yet and I don't think Gohan would have fallen beneath Super Buu. I'd say Gohan wins pretty easily.

I don't think Beerus ever made a statement like that until he was done fighting Super Saiyan god Goku saying Goku was the second strongest he had ever fought.

Because it's synonymous with power. Skill is meaningless in Dragonball, per Toriyama it's all about KI. We know Goku and Vegeta are the strongest because Beerus compares Vegeta (the one who made him use 10% of his power) directly to Goku. Goku did a lot better than Gohan did against Beerus. Beerus even compares Rage Vegeta to Goku, not Gohan

He probably barely had it in BoG and lost it shortly after. His Ultimate is what made him stronger than Buu and after he lost it he became weaker.

Gohan and everyone else are at their respective power levels since the Buu saga (it's stated to be 6 months and some time after the defeat of Buu) Vegeta and Goten state Goku is the strongest in the universe. When Beerus beats Vegeta (using 10% of his power) he states that he was more fun than fighting Goku. So yes, Goku and Vegeta are FAR beyond Gohan, just like they were in Z.

I suppose that's an idea, certainly a sensible one, I mostly viewed it as a 'gradual' drop in power that culminated in him outright losing his ultimate status. His 'potential' in so far as the form can tell got smaller and smaller and lower until it disappeared entirely and his eyes shifted (Prince drew attention to those). @Kidbuu55 Gohan is weaker than FatBuu is what you're telling me basically. Because that's his power level in DBS, Fat Buu did far better than Gohan. So no, they're not the same at all. Not even gonna bother telling why you're wrong regarding Z, everyone else has done so and you still haven't listened. I'm just gonna say, Gohan got weaker in Super.
